    From the President's desk . . .

April 2003

    Dear Members,
Our society is now going into a Spring Fling with a number of fresh and exciting activities. We will begin with our annual Spring Concert and Dance at the Legion Hall in Riverside, take a bus trip through town on a double decker bus, learning about men’s trousers, and have a picnic in June. I hope that you can plan to be with us for all of these events.
The Hunt House is now completely painted and looks great. Work should begin on the roof of the Meter House this spring and hopefully the city will get to finish the job of putting in a stone wall in the back of the Hunt House and complete the land scaping.
The construction of the fish ladder in the river in front of the Hunt House will begin in about a year. Final plans have been presented to the City and the project is moving forward.
Thanks to Reinhard Wohlgemuth we now have an excellent web site. You can find the site at ephist.org. The site will increase in size as more information about the society and historic sites in East Providence is added. Updated activities and the latest president’s letter will also be included.
Edna Anness and Ginny Berwick have been working very hard to organize the society’s participation in the upcoming R.I. Treasures Exhibit. Hopefully you will want to join us on May 18 at the exhibit. More details are in this month’s Gazette.
Myself, Ray Anderson and Kris Rose will be attending the State Historic Preservation Conference in East Greenwich on Saturday April 12. We will be going to several meetings concerning topics that will be helpful to us to get grant monies for our organization, help us to better use our facilities, and reach out to our community more effectively.
The East Providence Historic Properties Study and Designation Commission has been able to have a second printing of its booklet, "Historic East Providence". The booklet is free and is available at the information desk at City Hall, all East Providence libraries and at the Hunt House.

See you at the Concert and Dance.
