July 2003

    Dear Members,
I hope you are all enjoying the summer and keeping cool when the hot weather attacks us! Here is an update on society business:
  • The heating and cooling systems at the John Hunt House have been inspected by city officials and we have their assurance that it will be maintained in good working order.
  • The society's website, ephist.org, is up and running thanks to member Reinhard Wohlgemuth. We encourage you to check in frequently to keep up on society events. We are also looking for volunteer reporters to write-up society activities to be included on the website. If interested, contact reinhard-kathy@att.net.
  • June Picnic. We had a good turn out for the annual picnic. Thanks to all who came and brought salads. Thanks also to the cooks and strawberry shortcake makers, whose names are listed below. Congratulations to Barbara Tewksbury who won split-the-pot!
  • The Board is considering adding e-mail addresses to the membership list. If you have an e-mail address and would like it included along with your mailing address, contact Mona Breault, Membership Chairman, at the September meeting or when you renew your membership.
  • It has been suggested that the John Hunt House Museum be open on weekends for a few hours rather than Tuesdays and Thursdays; the reason being that more people have free time on weekends to visit museums. A schedule would be set up with the museum docents. Visitors could still make appointments to tour the museum at other times.
  • I would like to thank the following members who have agreed to continue as chairpersons for the following committees:
    Grounds:Ray Anderson
    Markers: Kris Rose
    Membership: Mona Breault
    Museum: Virginia Berwick
    Newsletter: Doreen Bonney/Florence Adams
    Program: Ray Anderson
    Publicity: Florence Adams

We are in search of chairmen for the Building and Preservation Committees and a Museum Curator. If you are interested or know someone who would be, please give me a call, 434-5581, or contact me by e-mail, eprov163@ride.ri.net.
Enjoy the rest of the summer and we will see you in September!!

                Kris Rose
